Some blew up so close, their parts landed on the flight deck.”Īfter spending over a year at sea, Donovan volunteered for the Fleet Marine Force. You’d hit ’em, they’d catch on fire … and they’d still come right at you. “And the kamikazes! You almost couldn’t knock them down. “Those damn (Japanese) planes were like flies, comin’ from all over,” said Donovan in a 2004 interview. Ewg rating for thinkbaby sunscreen1/3/2024 These are some more of our teams tried and true favorites. Now that we know what to look for in a sunscreen, in terms of balancing protection versus health safety of the product, here’s what we think are the best choices for your family. But if you like knowing the ingredients in your sunscreen, you will love Waxhead’s simplicity. But it is plastic (and sunflower oil!) free, which is great if you’re looking to avoid those.īottom line: If your kids have a tough time sitting still for sunscreen application, choose one of the options in a tube. True to its name, the waxhead tin is very waxy. This sunscreen is odorless and safe to use on babies 6 months and up.Įnvironmental Watch Group rating: 1 Waxhead Field Tin It has Vitamin D mixed in it – helping to counter the Vitamin D absorption that is prevented by sunscreen. The Vitamin D Sunscreen rubs on much smoother than the field tin. Our testers loved that this sunscreen was designed to be used for babies ages 0 and up (although be sure to check with your pediatrician), but didn’t love the scent and found it was difficult to apply.Įnvironmental Watch Group rating: 1 Vitamin D Sunscreen It will give you a white lipstick look, so be prepared to rock the teenage lifeguard look.Įnvironmental Watch Group rating: 1 Baby Waxhead This was easy to apply and smelled great. Waxhead sunscreens use very few ingredients, and skip products that make other sunscreens smoother and easier to spread on.īy sticking to the basics – zinc oxide, coconut oil, beeswax – Waxhead sunscreens can provide peace of mind to parents who aren’t comfortable not knowing what is going on their baby’s skin. Waxhead sunscreens are reef safe, natural sunscreens that use “only non-nano, uncoated, French process Zinc Oxide, 100% certified organic edible-grade inactive ingredients, and no petrochemicals” that provide protection across the UVA/UVB spectrum. There is no added fragrance, but it still has a pleasant outdoor flowery scent that’s not too overwhelming.īottom Line: This is a very effective sunscreen that some may enjoy, but the summer blend may turn off kids who are averse to strong smells. This sunscreen requires a little extra time rubbing it in to avoid any white streaks in your skin, but is effective even at high altitudes. One of our testers finds that she is allergic to most sunscreens and had no issue with this one! Super Sensitive Go ahead and throw that years old tube in the back of the minivan away). The active ingredient in California Baby is titanium dioxide, California Baby sunscreen is free of oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, octioxate, Vitamin A, and retinyl palmitate.Ĭalifornia Baby says their “sunscreens are coral reef safe.” California Baby is also very upfront about when their sunscreens expire (yup, sunscreen expires. California BabyĬalifornia Baby is another fantastic sunscreen option. The price point is also more affordable than many other mineral sunscreens. So don’t worry about the name, and pick whichever one smells best to you.īottom Line: Think Baby is a great bet if you are looking to match ease with efficacy. The ThinkBaby, ThinkSport, and Thinkport Kids are all the same formula, but have different scents. Testers felt it offered a good protection even after the 80 minutes that it is recommended for. Unlike most mineral sunscreens, this one won’t leave you looking like a ghost (or at least, less of a ghost than normal). It rubbed in smoothly and didn’t leave skin with a sticky residue. This sunscreen was easy to apply and the citrus-scent was a hit with adults and kids alike. The tube is made out of BPA free plastic. It provides broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection and “does not contain any known reef harmful chemicals.” ThinkBaby is a non-nano zinc oxide sunscreen that is paraben, phthalate, PABA, and 1,4 dioxane free.

Ps4 burly men at sea misses the mark1/2/2024 Whereas RE2 was more of the same – only bigger and better, RE7 was a huge overhaul and a more impressive experience for me personally. While the second half lost some of its luster, it didn’t stop me from getting every trophy but the hardest difficulty one (I couldn’t beat Mia, I think I could’ve done the rest of the game were I able to!) and then penning a speedrun guide on the title. The fact that the entire game is playable in VR only exacerbates the discomfort and potency of the franchise’s ambience. That the opening 30 minutes shocked the hell out of me, surprising given the series’ history. The first-person perspective and new protagonist, the escape from Raccoon City and familiar faces were all welcome changes, but it was the decaying house and ambience that proved the most poignant. While RE2 was a tremendous game in both its releases, neither was as powerful to me as RE7’s newness. Resident Evil 2: Completion Statsħ better than 2? I dare say, “yes,” emphatically. Much like RE8, I’ve never felt the compelling urge to dive back in for collectibles or a speedrun, something the next entries on this list. However, as good as it was, some would say #5 is far too low on this list. While I never beat the second campaign, the title was a spectacular return to form after RE7’s first-person vantage and the change in focus over the many years after RE4. The remake was equally impressive, utilizing Capcom’s RE Engine for a visually stunning re-envisioning. The original was impressive and marked the first RE game I beat. I played RE2 at launch in 1998 and at its relaunch almost 20 years later. This list is now getting into the difficult-to-rank range. # Of Times Beaten: Two (+ Two 1998 version) The village was my favorite part followed by Castle Dimetrescu leaving the second half (or latter 2/3rds even) less phenomenal IMO. While the game took some of the best elements of RE4, I felt it missed the mark in many others. I did return for a collectible run, then a speedrun and then a Village Of Shadows (hardest difficulty) run, but Heisenberg’s BS fight left me annoyed and I simply abandoned it. Moreau’s level, while cool-looking, wasn’t spectacular and thus, speedruns of those two levels felt like a chore. House Beneviento was not as impressive to me as it was to so many others. However, it felt scattered, possibly due to the Covid-inspired development cycle it endured. On the upside, this game looks fantastic, feels wonderful and has virtually every element of a good RE game that I love. As always in lists such as these, it looks worse than it is. Having just beaten this, it’s startling to see such a good game rank so low on this list. Sure, it’s campy but the game looked great and had the trademark powerful feel to guns and I quite liked it indeed. However, the game itself was just fantastic otherwise and unlike RE8, return to it I did – several times! My best run clocked in at 97 minutes, simply the perfect length for a one-sitting speedrun. The main gripe many had with 3make was its brevity – certainly a valid point. I’m talking about the remake here and not the original as I never played Nemesis back in the day. Perhaps one day – if only for Leon’s campaign. If I remember correctly, I only powered through Ada’s campaign just to say I beat it, over two years later.ĭue to my sheer love of the franchise, I purchased the PS4 remaster but never really dove back in. Since I played these in order of my perceived quality, the game started out OK and just decayed into a chore. The Bad: Jake’s is uninspired and Ada’s just dragged on. The Good: Leon’s story is pretty good and Chris’s is remotely positive. I didn’t like it, I didn’t finish it and I have no regrets about not revisiting it. Quality-of-life fixes like we see in modern titles were nowhere to be seen. I recall where I bailed too – I left some mandatory item somewhere because of the traditional inventory system and couldn’t remember how to get back. The dated mechanics, ‘meh’ storyline, banal characters and backtracking all just made this game a chore. Of all nine entries, this is the one I never completed. Ultimately, however, I felt confident in my final hierarchy and while these could very well change, as of today, I’m quite happy with my results.įoregoing any further ado, let’s leap into this list: ranking the nine mainline Resident Evil titles. As I stacked these and went through my personal history, there were some surprising upsets, if you will. I’ve already discussed my completion statistics on the franchise but with Resident Evil 8 in my rear-view mirror, I thought it time to reflect on all the mainline entries and how they stack up against one another.

It works well and is the best option a console game has yet seen for quickly moving around the map. The strategic zoom, a camera control that allows you to zoom all of the way down to ground level and then back up to fit the entire massive map on one screen, is a great fit for the console. There are some features that Supreme Commander brings to the table worth lauding. I had the game crash on me a few times, once as my army was marching in to finish off a long mission. Of course, it's not just the design that forces you to save at regular intervals. This design forces you to save often, an aspect that is particularly unfortunate on the console since the game takes its time to save all of that data. These can last hours which make some of the surprise reveals feel rather cheap as you complete an objective and are then tossed into a massive battle in a base you didn't know you were going to have to defend. Five or six missions might not seem like much, particularly when all three factions are quite similar in terms of unit options, but each offer multiple objectives as the map continues to expand and new enemies are presented. Each of the three factions has a five or six mission long campaign, but it isn't until the very end that you get access to the tech 3 and experimental units that are the icing on the cake. The story is nothing to write home about, but it's the mission design that keeps things from being fun. The single player campaign is rather boring in both design and presentation. In addition to the performance issues, the same problems that the PC game had rear their ugly heads here. You can zoom in to watch the action, but it doesn't look too pretty. It's a design that presents a great deal of depth, but also requires fast and precise commands to succeed at. It's no use putting all your efforts into building nuclear capabilities if it makes the rest of your production line crawl to a halt. Moving up through the tech tree produces more efficient and effective units, topped out with experimental units that are truly a sight to behold, but comes at a significant cost. Balancing the economy of energy and mass accumulation with your efforts at producing units and structures and climbing the tech tree presents a great deal of strategy. The Supreme Commander design takes delicate resource management and mass scale to the extreme. This exacerbates the problem which is trouble indeed on a game that requires you to often select individual units from a mass of small icons. Controllers have enough trouble mimicking the precision of a mouse and keyboard as it is. Try making a precision unit selection or command while the game is dropping frames and bouncing around. It might be worth it to struggle through the skips and stammers, but this is a case where the technical problems hamper the gameplay itself. I thought it might be the 360 I was playing on, but several different retail units all showed the same serious issues. Sometimes the game even pauses for a second or two after you give a command, freezing the cursor in place. Of course, if it did get much worse it would hardly run at all. In fact, the issues don't get much worse when the game is running full tilt with hundreds of units on screen. The main game is no different than the tutorial. Zoom in and out on the screen and you'll find that the game just can't keep up. Boot up the tutorial and you'll find a small test bed to learn the basics of the game - a test bed that contains only a few units and still can't run without stuttering. Even with the graphics scaled back from what a good PC can do, Supreme Commander never approaches anything close to a smooth experience. The game has such serious performance issues that they force everything else to take a back seat. Unfortunately, debating the pros and cons of Supreme Commander's strategy is rather superfluous in the case of the Xbox 360 port. It's not that the game itself is bad in fact I quite enjoyed it when it came out on PC early last year. Bringing Supreme Commander to the console was probably a bad choice. |
